The Gunnison Crested Butte Regional Airport will be hosting a safety and response training and exercise on April 12, 2017 between the hours of 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m, as required by the Federal Aviation Administration and to update the Airport's Emergency Plan. This exercise will involve emergency response personnel from Gunnison County and the City of Gunnison. This training and exercise will be conducted at the Airport, located on Rio Grande Avenue, in Gunnison, Colorado. Streets immediately surrounding the Airport may likely be closed to traffic and access in the neighboring area may be effected. The purpose of this multi-agency training and exercise is to practice emergency safety and response to a plane crash on the runway. The safety of the general public, staff, and that of all trainees involved in this exercise, is of paramount importance. There will be multiple styles of emergency response vehicles at and/or moving around the training site, with many emergency responders in various uniforms in the general area. There may also be visible smoke coming from the runway. Please respect this perimeter and remain outside of the training area to ensure everyone’s safety.
