The County Attorney’s Office provides legal counsel to the Board of County Commissioners of Gunnison County, all elected Gunnison County officials, and various Gunnison County Departments, including but not limited to, Administration, Alternative Services, Assessor, Clerk, Coroner, Gunnison/Crested Butte Regional Airport, Gunnison Valley Hospital, Health Care Center at Gunnison Living Center, Housing Authority, Human Services, Library, Planning Department, Public Health, Public Works, Sheriff and Treasurer. 

The County Attorney also represents various County Boards and Commissions, such as the Board of Adjustments, Board of Appeals, Environmental Health Board, Gunnison Valley Hospital Board of Trustees, Library Board, Health & Human Services Board, Planning Commission, and Weed Commission.

The Gunnison Combined (District and County) Courts are part of the Seventh Judical District and are located in Gunnison, Colorado. Gunnison is the home of Western State College and offers many recreational opportunities in the surrounding mountains. Crested Butte and the Crested Butte ski area are approximately 40 miles north of Gunnison. The address of the Gunnison County Courthouse is 200 East Virginia Ave. The court clerk's office and courtrooms are located on the second floor along with the probation office and the community service office. The court employs a district judge, a part-time county judge, a court reporter, the clerk of court, four deputy clerks, a probation officer and an alternative service coordinator and secretary.

The Colorado Judicial Branch joins the Legislative and Executive branches to form the government for the State of Colorado. The Judicial Branch is charged with two responsibilities: resolving disputes and supervising offenders on probation.

The Branch includes the Colorado Supreme Court, Colorado Court of Appeals, and district and county courts, served by 262 justices and judges in 22 judicial districts across the state (excluding 17 Denver county court judges). Municipal courts are not part of the state system. There are also seven water courts, one in each of the major river basins.
