The Office of Sheriff is a statutory office with mandates by State Legislation; the basic function mandated by the State of Colorado is to provide Law Enforcement services to the unincorporated areas of Gunnison County. Sheriff's Deputies routinely patrol the 3,266 square miles of the county, responding to various calls for service, rendering First Responder medical assistance, investigating crimes against persons and property, and serving civil process as directed. The Sheriff's Office also provides Organizational Command functions for Disaster Response, Search and Rescue Operations, Wildland fires and other events or incidents as required.
