Wildfire Information

CURRENT WILDFIRE INFORMATION:

South Rim Fire, Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park: Earlier this summer, the South Rim of the Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park experienced a wildfire that significantly impacted both structures and roadways on the South Rim. The North Rim was not affected. The park is open to visitors; however, certain activities may be curtailed. For information on the national park, go to https://www.nps.gov/blca/index.htm.

Please note that other wildfires may be active across the Western Slope that could contribute to smoke in Gunnison County.

CURRENT FIRE RESTRICTIONS:

All fire restrictions for unincorporated Gunnison County have been rescinded as of Friday, 9/12/2025 at 12:01am, and no fire restrictions are currently in place.

Try to provide the following information if it is available: location (as specific as possible), smoke color, smoke direction, size of fire area (if possible), flame height (if possible). PLEASE DO NOT PUT YOURSELF IN DANGER TO PROVIDE THIS INFORMATION!
