Section 8 Rental Assistance
The Section 8 Rental Assistance program provides housing subsidy for qualified applicants who locate rental units in the private market with participating landlords. Under this program, the applicant pays approximately 30 percent of his/her adjusted income for rent and utilities. The housing authority pays the balance of the fair market rent to the private landlord. Non-resident tenants in this program are required to live in Gunnison County for the first twelve months of their participation. The Gunnison County Housing Authority screens all applicants for rental and criminal history.
The Gunnison County Housing Authority shall not deny any family or individual the opportunity to apply for or receive assistance under HUD’s Housing Choice Voucher Program on account of race, color, sex, religion, creed, national or ethnic origin, age, family or marital status, or disability.
