Offices of Planning, Building & Environmental Health
The Gunnison County Community Development Department includes three offices: Current planning (land use permitting), Building, and Environmental Health. The Department is primarily responsible for ensuring that land uses within the county are developed and maintained in compliance with the County's adopted codes and regulations,and overseeing permit reviews for those uses. The Department is responsible for issuing Building Permits, Individual Sewage Disposal System Permits and Land Use Change Permits, and a variety of other more specialized permits.
We are upstairs in the Blackstock Government Center building (across from the U.S. Post Office) in Gunnison.
Gunnison County 2012 Land Use Analysis - The Board of County Commissioners' Strategic Plan Results included Strategic Result B-1, as one of four strategic results intended to protect the environment. Strategic Result B-1 stated: “Identify by 2012 and designate by 2013 appropriate areas for habitat protection, agricultural production, and industrial, commercial, and residential development.” The Gunnison County 2012 Land Use Analysis was produced by County staff, including representatives from the Geographic Information Services, Public Works and the Community Development Departments and the County Wildlife Conservation Coordinator.
Ranchland Process - The Ranchland Process was created to provide a voluntary alternative review process for the compatible development and conservation of lands involving agricultural operations in Gunnison County.

Residential Density Transfer Program (RDT) - The Residential Density Transfer Program was created to provide an effective and equitable tool to conserve ranchlands and other valuable natural lands and to help protect those lands from development impacts.
