Shady Island
The Shady Island River Park project is a parcel of land approximately 1.5 miles north of the City of Gunnison at 2714 Hwy 135 It was purchased by Gunnison County in 2017. The County is proposing to replace the existing unpermitted North Bridge boat launch area on the west side of the highway and develop a boat launch and other amenities at the Shady Island River Park site.
Gunnison County developed conceptual maps and a master plan based on public input collection from multiple public engagement events. The new River Park will provide safe public access for community members, visitors, anglers, and boaters with the construction of a formal boat launch area and access to the Gunnison River.
Shady Island River Park will include parking,19 tent camping sites, a camp host, picnic shelters with restrooms, trail loop system, recreation path, fishing access, boat staging area, access for non-boaters, outdoor classroom and gathering areas, picnic tables, and a boat queue area.
The Shady Island River Park project public hearing is scheduled for January 24, 2020 @ 9:00 A.M., in the Blackstocks Government Center, 221 N. Wisconsin- second floor meeting room. Please call Gunnison County Community and Economic Development with questions at 970-641-0360.
