Childcare
We are asking families to do the best they can in a very difficult situation.
Gunnison County has community spread of the COVID-19 virus. This virus can be passed by people who do not show symptoms. Given this situation and to protect our most vulnerable people and healthcare system, it is strongly recommended that families reduce social contact with other families.
Consider your home and the people that live with you to be a small unit, like a small island. Keep that island as physically isolated as possible. Play dates, watching each other’s kids, sleepovers, teenagers hanging out together are all very risky activities for spreading the virus.
If you must use childcare outside of your immediate family because of working or responding to the emergency, please do what you can to minimize the risk.
- Use the same person for childcare every time
- Make sure everyone is feeling healthy every day
- The smaller the group, the better
- Ask your childcare helper to minimize their contact with others as well. Remember, you are exposing your family not just to that person, but also to the people they interact with when they aren’t with your child
- In order to look out for the safety of the individual providing care, it is recommended that you do not use anyone over the age of 60 or with underlying health conditions to care for your children, as these individuals are at a higher risk of serious illness from the coronavirus

Updates
Property Taxes: The Gunnison County Treasurer’s office will accept the first half of the 2019 property taxes (originally due February 29, 2020) without delinquent interest from March 20 through April 20, 2020. First half property tax payments post‐marked by April 20, 2020 will be processed without delinquent interest. The full tax payment due by April 30, 2020 and the second half tax payment due by June 15, 2020 are not impacted by Executive Order D 2020 012 at this time. This may be modified or extended if additional action is taken by the Colorado State Legislature or the Governor.
Income Taxes: The IRS will postpone the April 15 tax payment deadline by 90 days for millions of individuals who owe $1 million or less and corporations that owe $10 million or less. Americans still have to meet the April 15 deadline if they are expecting a refund or are requesting a six-month extension, but they can defer payment for up to 90 days beyond that. Click here to read additional information. More to come on this soon.
Other Information: Gunnison County is initiating valley-wide conversations with business subgroups to begin crafting solutions to support local business through this difficult time. The exchange of information will illuminate immediate and future challenges and opportunities for each subgroup. A taskforce through the ICELab will work to bridge business subgroups with elected officials, resources and consultants. More information coming shortly.
The Community Foundation of the Gunnison Valley welcomes you to donate to local recovery efforts through this link. Anything you can spare will be appreciated as our community works through these difficult times.
