Projects

  • Crystal Townsite Architectural Survey
The project included an intensive level survey of 15 properties at the Crystal town site in Gunnison County.   This was made possible through a grant from History Colorado and the work was performed by Metcalf Archaeological Consultants.   The surveys provide the owners with an understanding their historic resource’s value and will inform possible future preservation efforts.
  • Gunnison Historic Newspaper Digitization Project
The Historic Preservation Commission has partnered with Western Colorado University Savage Library and Gunnison Public Libraries to digitize Gunnison’s historic newspapers. This will allow searchable online access to the newspapers, an essential resource for anyone researching the history of the community and an invaluable tool for preservation. The first phase of this project will focus on newspapers from 1880 to 1924. The digitization will be done by the Colorado Historic Newspaper Collection (CHNC), a service of the Colorado State Library. The newspapers will then be available through the Colorado Historic Newspaper project located at https://www.coloradohistoricnewspapers.org.
