Medical Assistance

Medicaid is a free public health insurance for adults and children who qualify. Medicaid can cover doctor visits, emergency care, preventative care, and other procedures and treatments. U.S. citizens or legal resident aliens can be eligible for Medicaid. Pregnant, undocumented women are eligible for delivery costs only. Residents of correctional institutions are not eligible for medicaid.

Child Health Plan Plus (CHP+) provides health insurance for Colorado residents age 18 and under and pregnant women age 19 and over who earn too much money to qualify for Medicaid but cannot afford private insurance. Depending on your monthly income, you may have to pay an enrollment fee and co-payments when you receive services and prescriptions. Applications for medicaid and CHP+ are available here in English and Spanish. You may also go online to PEAK to apply. Prior to applying online please read these Frequently Asked Questions to improve the accuracy of your application which will help give you a more accurate approval or denial.

If you already receive medical assistance you may check the status of your benefits or to order replacement Medicaid cards by creating an online account through PEAK.

Medicaid and the Affordable Care Act

Anyone who qualifies for Medicaid cannot get a premium tax credit through Connect For Health Colorado. Clients may "dis-enroll" from Medicaid however they will still not be eligible for the premium tax credit through the Marketplace.

Those who have experienced a qualifying life event such as marriage, divorce, childbirth or adoption may qualify to buy insurance outside of open enrollment. If you are new to Connect for health visit the New Customers page of the Connect for Health Colorado website for more information. If you've already purchased health insurance through Connect for health Colorado and have experienced a qualifying life event, visit the Current Customers page to report your change and ensure you have the right coverage.

Connect for Health Colorado

Connect for Health Colorado is a marketplace that helps individuals, families and small employers across Colorado purchase health insurance and apply for new federal financial assistance to reduce costs. connect for Health Colorado is the only place where Coloradans can apply for advance premium tax credits ad cost-sharing reductions to help pay for commercial insurance coverage. The next open enrollment period stats November 1st, 2020 for coverage that will begin January 2021.

Healthy Communities Program

The Healthy Communities Program serves children, young adults and pregnant women eligible for Health First Colorado or Colorado Child Health Plan Plus (CHP+) programs at no cost to families. About 100 Family Health Coordinators of the Healthy Communities Program provide outreach, navigation and health education, free of charge, to newly eligible members and families wanting to apply for coverage.
